Have You Called?
So if you have read me before, and if you are like me, you believe that there is no per chance, nor happenstance, there is no randomness to the teaching of God. If I say to you that I randomly selected by use of the poor mans concordance that I picked a verse, you know I say that with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
That does not mean to infer that I understand why this verse was so randomly chosen, just that it was. The verse is from Romans, chapter 10 and verse 13 and it reads, in the NIV Version, ”everyone who calls on the name of Jesus will be saved.”
What is it that you need to be saved from? I suppose there could be quite a debate about the condemnation of one sin over another. A debate that most will spend a lifetime in, but for the sake of this verse, I will suggest we look at Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and James 2:10, for whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. The stipulations is all need redemption for their actions, actions that keep us from glorifying God.
In Colossians 3, 5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
And to whom does this verse apply? Well, the Bible suggests this, Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; I think all of us fits into at least one of those categories.
We now know who (all of us) and we know what (anything that keeps us from God’s work). I ask the question, have you called on the name of Jesus?
What are you waiting for????
