If
you would like to make the jump to professional level
handicapping, here is where it starts!
Our Ratings help eliminate
hours of analysis by instantly isolating the top contenders. Fully 50% of the
time your race winner will be found in one of the top 3 rated horses. On some
circuits the average is closer to 70%!
Let me explain how to best use the Ratings
to Improve your handicapping instantly.
Our Ratings give you an accurate
numerical representation of a horses last race.
This Rating is based on several
factors which influence the horses performance including
the "level" it raced at. As
an example: A horse that earned a Rating of 85 in a $5,000 Claiming Race would probably
earn a rating of 75 or 80 in a $7,500 Claiming Race. In a Claiming Race for $3,500 the same horse might
earn a rating of 90.
So the first thing
to reconize is the level at which the Rating was earned. As in
this example!
Last Race Horse A Rating 78 $5,000 Claiming
Last Race Horse B Rating 75 $7,500 Claiming
Todays Race $5,000 Claimer
In this example, by using the Ratings alone
for our selection, Horse B is the Standout becuase he earned his
rating against
better horses. With the drop in class today we can expect him to improve on that rating quite a bit
It is very important that when you begin
to handicap a race you first scan the levels at which each horse earned their Ratings. Horses that earned
their Ratings at higher classes deserve a closer look.
Some of the best opportunites
that occur happen when there is a big spread in the Ratings. Consider the following 2 Races.

In this example Race 2 presents
a better opportunity for us. This is becuase in Race #1 all the Ratings are very close. What this says basically
is, that this is anybodies race! Compare that to Race #2 where we have 2 horses (#3 and #5) that really stand
out from the others. From a handicapping standpoint Race 2 will be much easier to figure.
Some other points to consider are Ratings based on
"Qualifiers". If a horse last Race happens to be
a qualifier, that is the race we rate.
Qualifiers do present a problem
however as they are not a reliable indication of the horses form. You see, most trainers could care less
if they win a Qualifier. They just want the horse to run and finishing
position (in most cases) is not even an issue. For this reason, when we
handicap a race preference is always given to the horses that earned their rating in live competition.
Another consideration are
horses that earned their Rating at another track and are just shipping in. This is a tricky factor! We are thinking
of publishing an adjustment chart for out of town tracks. But this however
is a slow tedious undertaking. We will put a notice on our site when it is available.
In the interim, just note
if the track is a major one in the same circuit (NY, NJ, etc). In those cases
just use the figures as is. If the track is a minor one you can probably look for the rating to drop
somewhat today depending on the class level. Do not use purse size as an indication of class in this case.
Smaller tracks have smaller purses for the same caliber of horses!
Well, thats it for now. We will be updating this page frequently as we discover
new ways to use our Ratings. Check back often as we will always share our information with our readers.
