ANECDOTES ABOUT OUR PROJECT

Hey! My name is Melissa and I volunteered for the terrapin group because I found them to be really interesting and I have never taken care of terrapins before. I have discovered that terrapins are in more danger than I thought. Surprising to me was that the primary students also found the terrapins to be interesting. And now I’m glad to be supporting the terrapins.

Hey! My name is LaChanda and I volunteered because I love animals.

Hi! My name is Kathryn and I volunteered because I love terrapins and my sister loves them too. I will remember the cute little faces in that morning when I come in, and I will remember all the things that we did.

Hi! My name is Monica and I volunteered because I want to help save the lives of little terrapins that are endangered. I remember one time when I was turtle sitting and I only got four. I thought I was supposed to have five and I panicked. I didn’t know what to do until I found out one wasn’t supposed to go home with me.

Hey! My name is Melissa and I volunteered because I love to help animals, especially smaller animals because there is nothing they can do to save themselves. I remember one time when I was turtle sitting and I forgot the terrapins at school. I thought I had them with me so I drove away. When I got home I saw that they weren’t with me so I had to rush back to school and pick them up. I discovered that the terrapins can be noisy, but at times they can be so quiet that it seems like their not even there with you.

Hey! My name is Tara and I volunteered because it seemed like a new experience, also I volunteered because one of my favorite animals is a turtle. One frightening experience is when I went out one day and I had the terrapins and I thought I forgot to shut my door and I was upset because I have two cats and one dog. When I got home I found all three animals in my bedroom, and luckily the terrapins were left alone and still alive. Now I always remember to shut my bedroom door.

Hey! My name is Jessica and I volunteered because I grew up with some turtles and I love to watch them to see their habits. I love taking care of there and babysitting them. One of my bad experiences where my cat wanted to play with one of them not to eat it but just to play with it, but I didn’t let her and they where fine. I hope if you are in 6th grade or lower that you volunteer also because it is a lot of fun.

Hey! My name is Casey and I volunteered for the Terrapins because I thought they would be interesting to help out with. One thing that I remember doing with them is taking care of them at my house. My mom thought I would kill them, but I didn’t, THANK GOD! What I think is unusual is how they eat, and how they can be under water for a long period of time. One thing that I found surprising was that they haven’t grown a lot. One day I was at school and little kids came in the classroom to learn about the terrapins. I talked to them and showed them the terrapins. We talked about what they do and what they eat. I had a lot of fun, and an interesting time watching them and babysitting them. I loved learning about them, because it is really sad what has happened to a lot of the terrapins.

Hey! My name is Brielle and I volunteered for the Terrapins because I thought it would be fun. The one thing I’ll always remember about babysitting the Terrapins is getting the Bay-Water. I would have to literally walk into the bay and get my feet and bottom of my pants all wet. Also, the first time I took them home I was so nervous, and I thought I killed one, but it was just sleeping…whew! The thing that’s most unusual about them is when we put on the light and they stack up on top of each other. I’ve had a lot of fun with the Terrapins, and I hope the younger kids will sign up for this activity too.

Hey! My name is Melissa P. and I volunteered for the Terrapin group because I love turtles, even thought after school I don’t have a lot of time because of the other clubs I’m in. I use to have two of them when I was younger and I still want another one! I think the turtles are so cute and when I baby-sat them I always spent my time in the room with them making sure they were okay, I even named them. Even though at times it seems like their dead, they aren’t they’re sleeping, although sometimes it is good to check how they are doing. I will really miss them when we release them into the water; I really hope that at least a few of them live to be full-grown. Hopefully the 6th graders will have as much fun as we did! I had a lot of fun being with them, and learning about them.

Hello! My name is Tommy D. I volunteered for the Terrapin club because I have always loved turtles and terrapins. When I was growing up, I always thought that they were the neatest animals around. I always look forward to volunteering after school and coming in, it’s great. Even though I don’t volunteer as much as I’d like to (every day) I still like to come in and see the terrapins. I enjoy going on the field trips to learn about the terrapins. When we were walking on the nature trail at Stockton, I stayed as far away from the people as possible. Even though I was in the front some people decided to stay as far as possible in the back. That spun the teachers for a loop! I hope everyone enjoys the terrapins as much as I do.

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am a terrapin volunteer. I became a terrapin volunteer because I love to work with animals. I remember when we had little kids come down to the classroom and teach them about the terrapins. Another great part about that is since I am the only terrapin volunteer in my 6th period class I got to chose some of my friends to help me. We picked up the turtles and carried them around to show to the kids. But they couldn’t hold them because we can’t our germs on them. We told them how we cared for them, why we cared for them, and why they are endangered. For once the kids seemed eager to learn.

Hey! My name is Carolyn and I am a terrapin volunteer because I am worried that they will be extinct. I babysat the terrapins three times and all three times were fun. I watched them eat and swim. I also love animals and it would break my heart if I had to see the cutest little animals be extinct. I’m very, very glad that I have been a volunteer.

Hi! My name is Victoria and I am a Terrapin volunteer, also. I wanted to become a volunteer, because I wanted to help the Terrapins. I enjoyed taking them home, because it was so fun to see how they do things. They used to topple on top of each other. I will always help the turtles.

Hi. My name is Tiffany and I am a terrapin volunteer. When I first started I wanted to take care of them so that they wouldn’t become extinct. I learned that when turtles climb on top of each other that they wont die because of it because the strongest one pushes themselves under the other turtles. I think that the food they eat really smells bad and you probably would too if you smelled it. When we release the terrapins, many people will be sad including me because we all got attached to them. I really enjoy being a terrapin volunteer.
