With a full-fledged comeback highlighted by a new album and upcoming arena tour, reunited boy band 98 Degrees stopped by the Billboard studio earlier this month to perform their new single, "Microphone," and discuss the long road that led to their first extended collaboration in over a decade.
"Every day was an opportunity to get back together," says Drew Lachey, who formed the vocal group with his brother Nick Lachey as well as Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. "It literally was just a matter of four different grown men going in four different directions, living their lives. But we always had the intention of getting back together and making music again."
After reuniting last summer to perform at the Mixtape Festival in Hershey, Pa., 98 Degrees -- best known for hits like "Because of You," "The Hardest Thing" and "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" -- decided to head into the studio and work on its first full-length since 2000's "Revelation." The result was "2.0," a new album featuring "Microphone" and other likable pop tracks, released earlier this month.
"The essence of us as a group, it's the same," says Nick Lachey. "We still love to sing together. We still get in the studio and do what we do best, and that's perform."
On Tuesday (May 28), 98 Degrees kicks off The Package tour alongside New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men in Uncasville, Conn. Watch the group's video interview with Billboard to find out what fans can expect on the arena trek, and check back with Pop Shop early next week to watch another 98 Degrees performance from their Billboard studio session!

This summer, TODAY will once again put the rock in Rockefeller Plaza, bringing together the hottest hit-makers for its 18th annual summer concert series.
There’s no better way to officially kick off summer than with some fun -- the indie pop band fun., that is. On Friday, May 24, in their first-ever TODAY concert, the Grammy award winners will be turning “Some Nights” into one great morning.
This year’s lineup also includes One Direction and Chris Brown, two veteran TODAY sensations who brought record-setting crowds in previous plaza performances. The 2013 series also features rock bands Maroon 5, Train and Fall Out Boy as well as singer-songwriters John Mayer, Michael Buble and Ed Sheeran. Parade Rewind: Nick Lachey on Fatherhood, His New Album, and Touring with 98 Degrees.Nick Lachey stopped by to chat with PARADE about the inspiration behind his new album, A Father’s Lullaby (now in stores), gearing up for his summer tour with 98 Degrees, NKOYB, and Boyz II Men, and why he won’t be signing up for another reality TV show anytime soon.
Since welcoming his son Camden into the world with wife Vanessa Minnillo in September, Nick Lachey has been overjoyed with his new role as a father. The first-time dad has released a new album to celebrate the couple’s new addition.
“There are so many emotions that you go through when you have your first kid, and music has always been an outlet for me to express what I’m going through, so I thought what a great opportunity to do a project about this great moment in my life and dedicate it to him,” Lachey tells PARADE.
And the album isn’t just for kids — longtime fans of Lachey (and 98 Degrees, of course!) will also enjoy the soulful album.
“Fans that have grown up with me and 98 Degrees are now at the age where they’re starting to have kids, so I also thought what a great chance to share something with the fans who have grown up with me and are now having kids of their own,” he added.
His son Camden also got in on the action. Lachey says that he tested each and every song on his little one.
“I’d come home from the studio and play the demos for him and see his reaction,” he says. “Right now, he’s listening to 98 Degrees’ upcoming album, 2.0 (available May 7). He’s a big fan. He says he likes the new album much better than the old one!”

Nick Lachey On Fatherhood & Package Tour With Boyz II Men, New Kids: We’re Bringing 30 Kids On Tour

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Nick Lachey became a first-time father seven months ago when wife Vanessa gave birth to the couple’s son, Camden, and the singer is loving every minute of fatherhood.
“He’s sitting up on his own now… he can’t quite reach out for the crawl, but he’s within days of crawling,” Nick told Kit Hoover and Billy Bush on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live. “Every day it’s something new. It’s crazy.”
The singer (who was so moved by fatherhood that he recorded a new album, “A Father’s Lullaby”) said it’s no joke that becoming a parent changes a person’s life forever.
“[I was surprised by] just how much it affects everything in your life – all in a positive way, but literally everything. Every decision you make, your priorities completely shift, your schedule’s completely different,” he said. “It’s overwhelming… in a good way.”
Nick will hit the road with his band, 98 Degrees, this summer (along with New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men) for “The Package Tour,” and little Camden will be along for the ride.
And Camden’s not the only child set to tour with the three pop groups!
“We did the math – I think it’s 30 combined kids between everybody in every group. There’s 30 combined kids,” he said with a laugh. “There’s gotta be some big family moment at the end of the tour.”
Adding, “Everyone, I think, is going to bring their families at different points in the tour.”
“A Father’s Lullaby’ is available in stores and online now.
Additionally, 98 Degrees’ new album, “2.0,” will be released on May 7.

News: New Kids on the Block, Boys II Men and 98 Degrees Talk Package Tour
"It never gets old, never gets old. Feels the same," the group answered, with Jordan Knight adding, "We love it, that's why we do it—one of the reasons."
Donnie Wahlberg then made the distinction that, "Men and women are different. Men go onstage and women scream, and we wanna hear it forever. Women walk down the street and a guy goes, ‘Yo, yo, yo!' Girls get sick of it. They don't wanna get hit on."
Well, he has a point
As far as getting these groups together, Wahlberg shared that, "This was the discussion, there was no reaching out to 20 groups and see who wants to show up. It was, ‘Let's put this tour together with these three groups,' and fortunately, we were able to make it all work."
And regardless of how busy each singer was with their personal life or other jobs, this was an offer they couldn't refuse.
"The opportunity to be a part of something like this," Jeff Timmons said, "I mean, you're talking about groups who have, collectively, sold hundreds of millions of records, and of course, we all have families and stuff like that and we're gonna hopefully bring them on the road, but it's just an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up, I don't think."
Nathan Morris then simply stated, "This is one of those one times, where all men fall in love with one woman, which is music."
