2002-2003 Turkish Cup

The Format

The clubs participating at several phases of the Turkish Cup is being decided by the final standings of the last year's league games. The same principle was applied this year as well. There were 189 clubs in the Turkish leagues last year, but only 48 plays in the cup, leaving 141 of them off. 48 clubs are made up of the 18 1.Super League, 20 2.League A group, and 10 2.League B group clubs.

Round 1

17 pairings.
15 clubs of last year's 1.Super League clubs (Clubs also playing at 1.Super League this year) are seeded bye for the round.
The rest (33) of the 48 clubs play Round 1. One club draws bye, since the number of clubs participating is an odd number. 16 Round 1 winners and the club which drew bye proceeds to Round 2.

All rounds of the Turkish Cup is played on a one-game knockout system. The games are played at the first club's venue. If the game ends at a tie, then extra 30 minutes will pe played with the "Golden Goal" rule. If the tie is not broken after the extra period, then penalty shoot-outs will decide the winner.

Round 2

17 Round 1 Clubs join the 15 seeded teams.

Round 3

16 Round winners play each other.

Quarter Finals

8 Round 3 winners play each other.

Semi Finals

4 Quarter Finals winners play each other.

Final

2 Semi Finalists play each other
