1961-1962 Milli Lig

Galatasaray Spor Kulübü - İstanbul

Galatasaray won its first championship.
There was a competition between İzmir clubs, since the highest placed club in the standings would represent Turkey in the Fairs' Cup next year.
Three clubs had to go to the Promotion/Relegation Games. However, five clubs would promote and the league would be played with 22 clubs next year.

1962 Baraj Maçları

Baraj Games were played by the bottom three clubs from Milli Lig (Vefa GK İstanbul, Ankara Demirspor K, Şeker Hilal SK Ankara), three champions of the Ankara (Hacettepe GK), İstanbul (Beyoğluspor GK), and İzmir pro-leagues (Demirspor K) and the only other professional club in other cities of Turkey (Demirspor K Adana).
Only one club would qualify to Milli Lig and the number of clubs would have been reduced to 18. After the Baraj games were completed, the clubs which couldn't qualify incrased the political pressure and the prime minister İsmet İnönü asked the league to be 20 club league again. TFF had a meeting and decided to accept 5 clubs from the Baraj games increasing the clubs to 22, and set-up a 2nd league the following year.
Games were played in Bursa.
