"The Sleeping Prophet"

Edgar Cayce also known as "The Sleeping Prophet" has touched many lives. In his lifetime he gave over 14,000 readings, helping people and shedding light on their unanswered questions.

Edgar Cayce was born March 18, 1877 on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Growing up he went unnoticed and was dismissed as a child with an overactive imagination. One of his first unusual experiences happened when he was 13, and studying for a spelling test. Unable to spell any of the words correctly he studied to exhaustion and fell asleep on his text book. On awaking he discovered not only could he spell all the words in his book but also knew on which page they appeared.

He quit school after the 7th grade and went to work at a relative's farm to help support his family. At the age of 26, he married Gertrude Evans. After a series of jobs he finally got a job as a traveling salesman and it was at that point that he lost his voice as a result to a paralysis of the throat muscles. After many doctors failed to find the cause and cure to Edgar's illness, Edgar Cayce suggested they try hypnosis. While in trance he gave a diagnosis and a treatment for his sickness. The treatment he gave himself was a success and he was cured in a short amount of time.

After seeing the Cayce story in medicine journals, many doctors took advantage of Cayce's talent to diagnose their patients. They soon found out that all Edgar Cayce needed was the name and address of the patient in question and telepathically he could find a cause and suggest a treatment. Before long people were seeking his help. Intrigued by his gift, people would query him on other topics such as astrology, reincarnation, religion and future events.

Edgar Cayce dedicated most of his life to helping individuals, reading the Bible once a year and teaching Sunday school. He couldn't refuse to help a needy soul. Just before his death, he was warned by his doctor that if kept giving readings at that rate, that it would kill him. He didn't follow doctor's orders and died January 3th, 1945 in Virginia Beach, VA.

The Sleeping Prophet was a medical diagnostician, a prophet, a devoted father and husband, and a devoted proponent of Bible lore. In 1931 the A.R.E (Association for Research and Enlightenment) was founded in Virginia Beach, VA. There they conduct investigations, experiments and hold conferences on Edgar Cayce and new age topics. I visited the A.R.E this year and it was very interesting. All of Cayce's readings are filed in a huge library. If you are ever in the Virginia Beach area, do stop by! I have compiled some of his most interesting prophecies.
