This is a
makeshift page to contain a few sample works i made (i just filled up
three of my sketch books in three months, to see how much i love drawing)
and a LOT OF RANTING. So just page down below to spare yourself the dribble.
I've always
wanted to put up a web comic and actually bring my old web page (Who is
Quentin Montejo??) a life of its own. I'm appreciative of the manga/anime
style art because i think it's more expressive in terms of emotion. Them
damn Japanese are just too good (the same way i feel about them damn Afro-americans
for making god damn great music) to leave their art on their own.
I used to
be a Western comic fan, but i think the reason i left it is because i
could see Wolverine clones everywhere. Not to mention i got tired at looking
at all the monotonous body/armor/weapon/glowing hands/flying types that
its not entertaining me anymore. I have yet to see them use another genre
(which manga covered more readily) in their works besides superheroes
and gothic stories. That portion of Dexter's Lab where superheroes deal
with daily lives really hit the nail in the head.
And to those
people, please don't ever, ever tell me that it's impossible to make something
ORIGINAL nowadays and that everything can only be a rehash of the other.
I say, people are not just thinking and trying HARD ENOUGH. Being original
does not mean doing something nobody else has done before, but it can
be you saw something no one else had and people just overlook it ... if
you know what i mean.
So what else
... ah yes, ever since i worked for the company i'm presently in, i became
a fan of web comics like PvP Online, 8-bit Theater, and Sinfest. That
and the proliferation of bastardized anime on local TV (sorry little kids,
local TV industries are in it for the money and they will suck all the
anime in Japan just to raise ratings ...) prompted me to do things like
this. Someday i'll be good enough to do decent comics, but until then,
i practice.
And for the
last word on all those noble attempts to infuse the animanga culture into
ours (yes Culture Crash, i'm talking to you) i'll believe in your endeavor
only if you can sell your works even WITHOUT color. Pugad Baboy did that,
Beerkada did that, hell, even manga did that, so ... eh ... i'll shut
up now since i'm having incoherent thoughts about pork sisig and beer
:)
