Well, folks, here it is. The first concert in the US in 2000 (woo hoo)! It was great and I had a blast (and thank God mother nature cooperated)!
It all started for me around 4:00am, I took the bus into the city at 4:45 and got there at 5:45. I was meeting Val and Monica, so I waited for them at the bus terminal.
Val got there around 6:00 and so now we were just waiting for Monica's bus to arrive. We waited for a 1/2 and still no bus, so we decided to leave and she'll catch up with us later.
Would you believe that once we got into the street and crossed at the light, guess who comes running after us? MONICA! (LOL!) We were like "where were you? We were there for 1/2 an hour!" Apparently, her bus dropped her off at a different gate and she didn't know it. Of course, it was raining and I was the only one with an umbrella; so we walked in the rain to Rockafeller Center.
When we got there, the TODAY SHOW was just starting and there was a lot of people there, but we managed to find good places (as long as I was able to see SIMON and he was able to see me, it was fine....LOL!).
At about 7:15 or so, my new pal Michelle showed up and then Tina (we found each other after all!). We all just hung out and talked, you know, until THE MEN showed up.
Actually, though, the crowd was happening and there were these guys on our side who kept making us laugh. They were really being a trip. It was hilarious.
At around 8:15, I think it stopped, raining. (THANK YOU, THINGS ALWAYS CLEAR UP FOR DURAN!) Must be close to show time.
I'm not sure when the guys showed up, probably a little before 8:30 so they can set up and stuff. We all went crazy. Some of the guys on our side kept calling out "let them play! let them play!" (I told you, they were funny.)
Finally, it was time and katie went to interview SIMON (we couldn't hear anything, but it got aired anyway so....), then "HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF" starts.
Man, what a crowd and what a show! Everyone was dancing and singing, it was so cool. The song line up went like this:
HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF
SOMEONE ELSE NOT ME
GIRLS ON FILM
NOTORIOUS
That's what got aired on TODAY and LATER TODAY. Now, during the commercial breaks, to keep the audience occuppied (like I had a problem watching them just stand there....not! Hee, hee!) they played the following songs:
COME UNDONE (They had to stop short because the commercials were over and LATER TODAY was starting)
HALLUCINATING ELVIS (They had to stop in the middle of the song because Joe had kicked the drums too hard and I guess he broke something. When things got back to normal, they started all over again....LOL!)
WHITE LINES (All I have to say is THAT SONG KICKS ASS!)
Someone threw red underwear onstage during HLTW, so when the song was over, during the commercial break, the guys were trying to figure out who threw it so SIMON picked it up and asked "who's is this?" and he went down to give it back to the girl who threw it (LOL! LOL!) That was so funny.
Some person had a sign up, and now I can't remember what the heck it said. Something about "repent your sins" or something. Anyway, SIMON couldn't stop laughing when he saw it. Then NICK started laughing too....What a riot, too funny.
Let's see, for those who haven't seen the show (or can't get it), SIMON was wearing green baggy pants (SIMON WEARING BAGGY PANTS????), a shirt with a kitten on it (I thought that was cute), and a black leather jacket. Cool, and he looked fabulous as usual. NICK had on, I think, a black jacket that was zipped up (apparently covering the orange shirt he had underneath), and white pants. He looked great too! :)
So the overall performance was EXCELLENT! I GIVE IN AN A+! DURAN DURAN ARE BACK, BABY, AND HERE TO STAY!
