Guess I can't be a punk, forgot my studded leather jacket

I missed a good show lately. The Dropkick Murphy’s show at the Electric Factory in Philly. Couldn’t get tickets, and from what I heard was a great show. Magically delicious. In any case, three of my friends that were there told me that I missed a lot of COMPLAINT rant material. That sucks, but the things they were telling me about sort of took me back a bit. Seems that good portions of the punks at the show were wearing “uniforms”.

Now, maybe I should of seen this before or maybe I didn’t notice it because I’m such a fan of punk music. Now, even I have been seeing the stagnating of the punk music world. Essentially, all punk bands do nowadays is scream about the war and not much else. But, as my friends brought to my attention, it seems that punks now are just uniform clones of street punk bands like the Casualties and the Unseen.

”What is this ‘uniform’” you ask? Here’s a sample:

Leather/blue jean jacket, cuffed wranglers (not shown), a mohawk/liberty spikes/shaved hair style, studs and spikes, patches, and buttons (the last three options on one leather/blue jean jacket. It’s ridiculous. Even beyond the goth movement (which just seems to emphasize black clothes) punk seems to want to dress exactly the same. Funny, considering punk is a counter-culture that prides itself on being individuals, anti/non-conformists. It’s as much of a uniform as a Subway fast food worker or a Marine Corp. dress uniform. It’s absolutely ludicrous (not the singer, foo’).

Now, if you know what I look like, it’s not exactly the most “individual” clothes. I admit that I buy from Hot Topic and Pacsun and other chain stores, but I think there’s a distinct difference. I wear whatever I like, spanning whatever lines of clothes that I see. Goths and, to a greater extent, punks just want to look like the rest of their groups. I could give a shit less if I look “punk” or “goth” or “skater” or whatever (even though I do skate and I guess that defaults me as a skater). I wonder how I’d look as a uniform punk?

Thanks to Hillartsympho for the amazing rendition of super-punk me.

Probably a lot like that. That’s scary. Me no like. I just can’t understand why any of these groups try to dress the same. It totally defeats the purpose of being an individual. But, I guess I can’t complain because people can do what they want… oh wait, I CAN complain about it. Ah, I love America. Well, I guess I should be thankful for these assholes, what else would I complain about on my site if it wasn't for people like them. Silly conforming-punks.
