So, it’s a bit late, but I’ll put my two cents in on Religion. It’s been a while since Easter (couple weeks as I write this), but Easter is always a big holiday in my house. Not because it was Jesus’ resurrection or because it has any religious significance at all for my family, but because it’s a good ham dinner. We have not gone to church in years, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Lots of people nowadays think it is, though. Seems with that Passion of the Christ movie out, people have gotten all religious and stuff. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. But, I think it will be soon.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe in God. I’ve seen too much to prove to me (personally, not empirically) that there is a higher power out there. What I don’t believe in is organized religion. You know what I’m talking about, considering it’s pretty much every religion that’s ever graced the earth. People are also getting all hyped about going to church. Now even my parents are starting to jump on the “pious” bandwagon. Personally, I don’t need some guy to lead me in devotion. For the most part, these guys are the same ones teaching choirboys how to really pray: one their knees with his cock in their various orifices. Spout that hymn, Father!
And now we have all these “born-again” Christians running around trying to push their holy-shit down everyone’s throat. If there is one thing that pisses me off to no end (and, yes, I do see the irony in my words… even though it’s not true if you’ve listened to anything I’ve said over the years) it’s having someone’s views incessantly pushed down my throat. Christians, PETA, hippies, liberals, punks, goths… the list goes on and on to an unbelievable extent. You know the type: you’re always wrong and need to conform to their fucked up, let’s ass-fuck the world cause it needs some love kind of assholes.
And it’s not just Christians that do this. Arab Islamic Extremists are one of the biggest religious fractions (and the most vocal) of the world. Also, they are the most militant of the bunch. Most of the terrorists use the fundamentalist ideals and interpretations (which are consequently WRONG translations… but that’s another rant) to carry out war without guilt. They are the ones that bombed the Cole, the trade towers (twice), Madrid, the Marine Barracks in Lebanon, hijacked a cruise liner, and even caused a hostage situation at an Olympic games (the reason we have counter-terrorism groups today!). They are, however, not the only ones.
Christian “coalitions” and militant groups have bombed and assassinated abortion doctors and clinics for years. Probably the ultimate in being pushy with your beliefs.
The moral? People need to start lightening up. It’s fine and dandy to have religion and save your soul and all, but it’s not your responsibility to save everyone around you. You just come off as an asshole and make everyone hate you more. The same goes for Atheists. That asshole that wanted “In God we Trust” and “…indivisible, under God” taken off the US dollar system and out of the pledge (respectively). We all need to stop worrying how people have opinions that might differ from our own. So take your views and shove them where it’ll do some good: your ass, so your bowels will block up and you’ll rot from the inside.
