I think that most of us have experienced problems with sleeping - especially when we are under a great deal of stress. For me - that means strange dreams ... sometimes I wake up in the middle of a dream, feeling extremely anxious, and definitely not understanding what I was dreaming. Quite often I will have dreams of falling at times like this. Now, that is the part that I do understand. Falling for me represents my sense of security. If I am falling in a dream, I feel like I have no control, or perhaps only limited control, in my waking life. Other themes reappear when I am under stress, none of which really lead to any sort of healing.
So do we have to sit back and "take what comes" in our dream world? No, resoundingly, no! Dreamtime was created as a tool for us to come to terms with situations/issues in our waking life, as a way to access our higher selves and as a way to access higher knowledge. It is good to remember that we can use dreamtime "deliberatley" to help us deal with whatever is in our lives.
We can begin by asking simple questions, by going into dreamtime with the thought of "What do I need to know about this person/situation/issue?", or "How will this person/situation/issue impact my life?". Remember to write your dreams down when you wake up - no matter how much sense they make! Dreams can be "real", in that the people and situations presented are what they are in your waking life, or they can be symbolic, where the people/situations in the dream represent "parts" of your self or your life.
We can take this one step further - we can go into dreamtime asking "What is/was my part in this situation/issue? How did my words or actions bring this about?" This is not to place blame or even to take blame - it is to get a clearer look at the process of whatever is going on in your life. It gives you a place to start the healing process.
We can also bring resolution to situations/issues in dreamtime. We can ask our higher selves to bring in the higher selves of the person/people that we need resolution with. This allows us to talk to them in dreamtime - to say what we have to say, and to hear what they have to say. We can send forgiveness and unconditional love to the people involved in the situation, to ourselves and to the situaltion/issue itself.
Dreamtime is one of the most empowering tools that we have. It often helps us with solutions to our problems "unasked", and certainly will do so if "asked".
