Shall we all head for the hills for the duration? Well, nice as this may sound to some, more than likely it is not the answer for most. This holiday time of year is one that acts as a catalyst for depression for many people. For others, the stress comes from trying to be all things to all people, or from the pressures inherent in family gatherings - old wounds reopened, family expectations and judgments, family feuds. How can we empower ourselves as individuals during this time, and still take part in the celebrations around us? One thought might be to live in the moment. To forget about expectations (ours and others), and to pay close attention only to the moment we are currently experiencing. Give everything that you have to the moment - you focus, your attention and your caring. Create quiet time for yourself, and use this time to relax, and to make a list of things that need to be done (both business and personal), and when they need to be done. Try and make your list a week in advance, and recognize that it will more than likely need to be amended from time to time. In this manner, you "can" live in each moment, because you are not having to worry about other moments - you have them already taken care of on your list. :) Another wayto empower yourself ius to make yourself the center of your own world. I am not talking being egotistical here - I am saying to think of yourself when you are making decisions. Don't make them for your spouse, or your children, or your boss - you personally live with the ramnifications of your decisions and actions. Make sure that they reflect who and what you are, and are consistent with your ownpersonal goals. Here are some links to meditation sites that provide a "personal oasis" over the next couple of months. May you enjoy them as much as I have.
