Working Within Dreamtime

Working Within Dreamtime

Do you remember your dreams? Do you remember if they are in color? Silly question on the surface, but I could not tell you if my dreams were in color, or if they were black and white ... I simply don't know. Perhaps what that means for me is that color, at least so far, is not important in relation to the messages coming through to me.

Color in our dreams can tell us much, even if the images are in black and white. The image itself holds one level of importance, the color another. Colors are representative of emotional states. When we remember the colors associated with the environmetn of our dreams, we can pinpoint the emotional state that the dream took place in, or perhaps what was the catalyst for the dream.

Color can work in several different ways, along with the symbols in our dreams. Sometimes color intensifies the object in the dream. For example, a red dress carries passion and emotion, it throbs with life. A black dress may indicate mourning, or a denseness or heaviness to the dream symbol.

Colors and images can work together to complement each other, in which case they need to be seen together to understand the total picture.

Color can also modify an image, especially when the emotions or feelings represented are "hidden". For example, a gray car or truck may speak or movement and power, and these may be emotions that the dreamer wishes to distance themselves from.

Color can be a symbol in itself - it can stand for a specific type of emotion. When the memory from a dream is mostly that of color, than the emotions behind the dream are coming through.

For an excellent explanation of colors in dreams, and how to work with them, see Dreamgate. Noting colors in our dream diaries/journals is an excellent way to gain a deeper understanding of our personal dream process. As a personal aside, I would note that different colors will mean different things to each individual, depending upon their cultural background and personal experiences.
