Dreamtime

Working With Dreams

Dreamtime, our sleeping state, gifts us with a marvelous opportunity to connect with our unconscious mind and access universal knowledge. By keeping track of our dreams, we can focus with greater intent on our day to day activities - we can make major leaps with the "Aha!" experiences that dreamtime can gift us with. Immediately upon waking from a dream, take a few moments to write the dream down, as well as any thoughts/feelings that come to mind. In this manner, we have something to work with when we attempt to interpret the dream - and we can revisit our dreams at a later date and add whatever new thoughts we have in relation to how the dream was reflected in our life.

In attempting to interpret the symbols in your dreams, it is fine to work with a given set of definitions - which can be found in many places on the Internet and in many fine books. What we need to keep in mind is that we are the "director" of our own dreams, so the interpretation of the symbols found in them will be individual for each person. This may be especially important during what is called "lucid" dreaming. In this dream state, the dreamer is aware that he/she is involved in a dream. This is a very exciting time - because in this state we can "rewrite" the ending for (recurring) dreams that have been leaving us with some sense of questioning or anxiety.

When you are writing down your dream, include as much information as you can. When you review the dream, if more information comes to mind - write it down. Think about the atmosphere of your dream - was in out in nature, or contained within buildings? Was there movement -were you in a car, walking, in an airplane or on a boat? What was the weather like - was it sunny, cloudy, rainy? Was the wind blowing? Were there people in your dream - and did you recognize them? Do they represent people in your waking life? What were the scents in your dream? What were you feeling - were you happy, or sad; excited or bored; tense - even afraid? What were the colors in your dream - and how did you feel about them? Colors are quite often a reflection of our emotional state in dreamtime.

All of these things will help you work with the information that your subconscious has brought to the surface. And that is one of the primary functions of dreamtime - to help bring resolution to our waking issues, and to act as a gateway to universal information that will open our lives up for us.
