2007 Calendar
artist: Kris Waldherr Henry N. Abrahms Inc. 2006 ISBN #0-8109-5465-6 I have been an aficionado of artist/author Kris Waldherr's work since her deck "The Goddess Tarot" came into my life. It is a true joy to experience both her art and her words. In "The Book of Goddesses 2007 Calendar", Waldherr has adapted illustrations from her "Book of Goddesses" into calendar format, using 13 goddesses to cover 16 calendar months (the first page of this calendar covers the last four months of the year 2006). The calendar is full color, 12 inches by 12 inches, unfolding into two parts. The upper half shows an intricate, beautifully rendered vision of a specific goddess. The lower half of the calendar shows the goddess down the left hand border of the page, along with a one month calendar (with smaller versions of the previous month and month to come in the upper right hand or lower left hand corner). The Goddess's story runs along the bottom of the lower page. The calendar lists all US and religious holidays, along with the new and full moons. The goddesses, representing a myriad of cultures, are: Isis, Tara, Venus, Benzai-ten, Lakshima, Gwenhywfar, Kwan Yin, Psyche, Chang O, Xochiquetzal, Oya, Athena, and Freyja. From the book, the story of Isis: "From before 3000 BCE to the second century CE, Isis was worshiped in Egypt as the great mother goddess of the universe. She was present every day at sunrise, and at the time of the new and full moons. Responsible for everything to do with wetness and moisture, her milk nourished all living beings. Her traditional headdress, a sun disk between two cow horns, symbolizes her varied duties." For anyone who wishes to connect with their inner reflection of the Divine Feminine, this work of art is for you.
