Inner Traditions 2006 ISBN #1594771626 The "Sacred Mirrors Cards" are a set of 23 cards from visionary artist Alex Grey. (The original 46" by 84" paintings featured in the Sacred Mirrors cards are on display at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York City.) These cards are meant to be representative of our journey through our physical, socio-political and spiritual anatomy. Twenty-one of these cards are reproductions from Alex Grey's "Sacred Mirrors" paintings. The two additional images are transformative images: "Oversoul" and "The Angel". The entire series is meant to help lead the view through theosis - the process of coming closer to God through the contemplation of archetypes, and seeing ourselves, those around us, and the world as all reflections of the Divine. The cards themselves are large - 4" by 8", made of sturdy, glossy card stock. There is extensive use of black and yellow/gold, as well as some blue and orange/red. The front of the card presents the imagery, fully to the edges of the card. The back of the card shows a multicolored border, and contains poetry from Alex Grey, a guided meditation, and a reflection - a one word "keyword" summary of the card's focus. The box that houses the cards is beautifully constructed of heavy cardboard, featuring a view of Grey's "Psychic Energy System" illustration. Included with the cards is an order form for a stunning metal frame (a replica of the twenty-one Sacred Mirrors frames originally sculpted by Alex and Allyson Grey) sized to hold the Sacred Mirrors cards. This would be a lovely addition to an alter, or to place anywhere that one wished to see specific cards for continued contemplation. Also included is an insert for CoSM: The Movie, which is a cinematic tour of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. The cards are as follows:
Chapel of Sacred Mirrors I picked two of the cards to share with you (and they are definitely ALL worth sharing!):
