The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham
Hay House, Inc. 2006 ISBN #978-1-4019-1227-7 This is a book of many journeys' - that of Esther and Jerry Hicks, that of the group entity entitled Abraham, and that of the reader that has been drawn to these teachings. The backbone of this book is formed around the original teachings of the group entity entitled Abraham. These teachings are based on the Law of Attraction - a universal law that states, very simply, that like attracts like. Using this concept, the channeled teachings of Abraham show us how to make this concept work in our everyday lives. In his preface, Jerry Hicks refers to the content of this book as "practical spirituality". It is that, and much more. This is the first time that these teachings, in their entirety, have appeared in one place. Represented here is a body of several years worth of work for Esther and Jerry Hicks, and the group entity Abraham. I am impressed with the format of this book. Esther and Jerry have shared much of their journey in how they got to the point that the entity Abraham entered their lives, and the many ways that the Abraham teachings have helped them evolve, and, intern, helped others to evolve as they share these teachings. Esther channels the teachings from Abraham, while Jerry and Abraham have the conversations that are recounted here. I found very interesting Esther's recounting of how she came to accept becoming a channel, and what her personal relationship with Abraham is. The format is that Jerry asks questions - questions that we all want the answers to, questions that help us become closer to spirit, and live better lives. The energies that comprise the Abraham entity describe themselves as teachers. They note that they are not here to alter our beliefs in any manner, but to reacquaint us with the Eternal Laws of the Universe so that we may intentionally become the creator that we came here to be. The three Universal Laws that they are most interested in having us understand are: The Law of Attraction, The Science of Deliberate Creation, and The Art of Allowing. Understanding the Law of Attraction is necessary to understanding and making use of the other two Laws. Each of the three Laws is discussed in turn. It is important to understand that we attract into our lives that which we place our intention on. We are co-creators of our own life, and need to accept the responsibility for this. It is an awesome responsibility, but it opens up an immense world of possibilities! There is so much information here - each time I read it something new pops up! One of the things that I found interesting was the point at which Jerry asked Abraham for words to enhance our well being. Although there are not called such, the words that Abraham gave Jerry are essentially positive affirmations, dealing with such things as finance and relationship. Whether the reader chose to use those exact words, or to fine tune them to fit their own situation, this is a powerful tool of empowerment. The Science of Deliberate Creation is broken down into two essential components: the desire for the creation and the allowing of the creation. How many times do we desire to create (manifest) something in our lives, only to block ourselves from attaining it? I believe that we do this more often than we think! It is here that we learn to trust our inner guidance (our intuition), recognize and work with our emotions and our emotional self. In this manner we attract thoughts that are in accord with our vibrational harmony. The Art of Allowing states that we are each who we are, and that we should accept this and be joyful. It goes on to state that others are who they are, and while they may be different, they are also good. We should not attempt to change others, nor should we allow them to change us. Two very big concepts in this section are that we do not need to protect ourselves from the thoughts of others, and that we are not vulnerable to the behavior of others. Also stressed in this section is the need to allow ourselves to feel our emotions, and rather than trying to monitor our thoughts. There is an incredible amount of information in this book, presented in such a manner that it is accessible to all people, from all backgrounds. If you want to spend less time trying to create a life, and more time living the life of your dreams, t his is the book for you.
