The
Imperial TIE Fighter model was built straight from the box. The
only modifications to the model are reinforcement plastic
(actually board game pegs) inside the assemblies that hold the
wings to the body.
The reinforcement seemed to work. The fighter
took a tumble at a model contest from about 8ft in the air and
landed on a hard floor. It didn't break at all; there's only a minor
dent in the plastic on the top of one wing.
The
base coat is Light Gray and the solar panels are Flat Black.
The panels were base coated with the Flat Black first. The trapezoidal
shapes were masked off and the framing was airbrushed Light
Gray.
The interior and the main viewport were painted Neutral Gray.
The pilot was painted with both Flat and Gloss Black.
