The Purple Ribbon is a symbol used in a campaign that began in Nova Scotia in 1990 to commerate the 14 woman who were murdered in Montreal on December 6, 1989. The ribbon symbolizes the tragedy and is an on-going campaign to stop violence against women. The Purple Ribbon Campaign has become an annual event running from November 25 - December 6.
The campaign is also in support of the following:

(a} Remember all women who have died violently or continue to live with abuse.

{b} Raise awareness of the pervasiveness of violence against women.

{c} Raise funds to continue work against violence against women.

The Mi'kmaq Family Treatment Centre - 893-8483.
