Sydney,
capital of New South Wales, has a history dating back to 26 January
1788 when Captain Phillip sailed the First Fleet into Port
Jackson and Sydney Cove, establishing Australia's first
European settlement. With a population of 3.6 million, Sydney has
grown into the largest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia. |

Canberra,
the Capital of Australia
Canberra is a totally planned city established just 80
years ago. The city was designed by an American landscape architect,
Walter Burley Griffin, who won an international design competition
conducted by the Federal Government in 1912. Canberra is often
described as Australia's Washington, because the city was built to
be the political, administrative and cultural hub of this country. |

Perth
was founded in 1829 and is now the sunniest capital in Australia and
the most isolated one in the world. It's citizens do not seem

they catch the afternoon sun. Many English migrants head for Perth
and the city has some striking English touches such as a Tudor
looking London Cout, build a few years after Henry VIII died, 1937
to be precise! |

as a backdrop, Hobart is a city with a seafaring character and sense
of the past where history is beautifully preserved. Its mix of
