MY HOME
My home is Uzbekistan,
one of the most beautiful countries in the world, but not beautiful because
it is my home.
I often wonder
what I would feel being a foreigner and visiting this country for the first
time in my life. The only conclusion I arrive at is that I would feel really
different. Hospitality would probably be shocking. Andy, one of the lads
I met in York was there and trust me the whole day was not enough for us
to talk about the place and share impressions. It was enjoyable to meet the guy who knew the place
and had lots of positive and amazing insights about my country, where he stayed a couple of weeks only.
Rich both in
natural and intellectual resources, the country is rapidly changing becoming
modernised and west-oriented. However, there is a lot of work to be done
in further improvement and rennovation of the infrastructure and attitude,
oppressed by the 70 years of the inefficient planned regime. People are very enthusiastic of being independent and have a strong belief and sound view of the future.
Some of the lads I met throughout my journeys keep
asking me questions about location and what Uzbekistan is famous for?!
I have to admit it is natural as the country has only been independent for 9 years. There are some
of the facts: we are the second largest exporter of the cotton in the world
and produce the purest gold with 8th position in mining of this precious
metal. The variety of natural resourses the country possesses includes
about 99 elements of the Mendeleev's chemical elements table putting the country into strategically important position both regionally and worldwide. The warm
climate with over 300 sunny days during a year (the winter is not Siberian,
my friends!!!) makes it possible to have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables
throughout the year.
Rich history of the old cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva as well as openness and hospitality
of people is an unambitious prerequsite for the interest of any traveler or tourist. The world
champions in professional boxing and free-style skiing are also my countrymates!
There are lots of things you would be surprised to learn,
and I am not trying to exaggerate.
The only thing
I would ask is for people to read and learn more about the place, which
is not going to leave you indifferent once you pay a visit. You are welcome here!
