MAKE A RUN

If you have decided to make a run for it you better get moving! If you do you will have to be quick to get past the victorious Hoplites, then their skirmish troops and finally their cavalry who have been waiting for the chance to run down unarmed, fleeing men.

If you don't ditch your Spear, Shield, Cuirass and Helmet, it will take you 6 rounds to run to Sanctuary. (This is a patch of very thick woodland behind the battlefield) You may of course keep your sword.

If you ditch all this crap now, you only have to run 3 rounds to reach Sanctuary.

If you bought some quickness back at the Gymnasium then -1 to all rolls against your life.

If you had too much to drink before the battle or if you indulged in some of the horizontal offerings, you must +1 to all rolls against your life.

Each Round that you Run you may be caught by pursuing Spartans and killed. In round one it is the Hoplites who may catch you. In round two, it is the Skirmishers, in each round after that, it is the Cavalry that are chasing you down.

On each round roll 1D6 against your life. Check under the type of troops that are pursuing you to see if you survive.

Hoplites pursuing

1-3 = You get away.

4-5 = You are speared in the back and die a naked, bloody mess.

6 = You surrender and if you have gold left from your purchasing at the beginning of the battle, offer yourself up for ransom. On a 1D6 roll of 5-6 you are pardoned. Go to SPOILS OF WAR Otherwise they bind you and sell you into slavery, a fate worse than death.

Skirmishers pursuing

1- 3 = You got away.

4-6 = They have run you down like a dog and hacked you to pieces with swords or shot you in the back with arrows.

Cavalry pursuing

1-2 = You manage to evade them.

3-5 = You are trampled under their hooves, or speared in the back.

6 = They have cornered you. If you have gold left from your purchasing spree before the battle, you may offer them a ransom to spare you. On a 1D6 roll of 5-6 you are pardoned. Go to SPOILS OF WAR. Otherwise they bind you and drag you off to be sold into slavery, a fate worse than death.
