The Cross Country Trips!
With the exception of elite show vehicles and race cars, most enthusiasts
are forced to drive their vehicles on longer trips. When traveling these vast distances, it's strongly
recommended to ensure that the car is up to the challenge.
Along the regular maintenance of the daily driving conditions, one should display extra care before
taking on a long distance trip. If your vehicle is approaching scheduled maintenance (oil change/coolant flush and
change, timing belt/pump replacement, etc.) these duties should be performed preceding the long drive.
The car should be checked overall to ensure top operating state.
Long distance drive should be prepared for with essentials such as first aid kit and emergency supplies,
those should include a blanket, food, water, matches, flashlight and emergency flares. Depending on distances
covered and roads taken, tools, extra gasoline, oil, water, coolant may prove handy. Having an automobile
club membership such as CAA or AAA could come in use. So is a credit card for emergency requiring expenses.
Last and not least, map/road atlas is a handy addition as well as written directions of the planned route.
Cellular telephone, two-way radios when traveling in group, and CB radio or a scanner make a worthwhile addition.
