Getting Started!
Since this website is concentrating on vehicles that are no longer in production
one should determine all the important variables that can be encountered purchasing
a used vehicle. Unless you're one of the lucky individuals that owns their car since
brand new.
When searching for the car of choice, it is important to determine what do you want.
Narrowing a range of bodystyle (in Accord's case, sedan, coupe, hatchback or wagon depending
on the production year), year(s) of production (for the desired features/look), general condition
of the vehicle and one of the most important ones, the price range. Depending on the source of
the used car, always compare it to other ones on the market. Sometimes a private sale car may
not net as many advantage as one would seem. Other times, a dealer advertised car that features
a drivetrain warranty may not be worth the extra money.
In summary make a preliminary choice of model year, model/equipment level, transmission
choice, body style, acceptable mileage and price range of the desired vehicle. Be sure to
determine if there has been any recalls by the manufacturer and whether they have been performed
on the desired car. Although there usually are preferred colour choices and combinations. I would advice
flexibility on this matter, as buying a car in the "perfect" colour may overshadow the general shape of
the car. Also if you plan any cosmetic modifications (bodywork, painting, interior re-upholstery) getting
a less desirable looking car, may net you considerable price savings that can fund the future
upgrades/changes.
Preliminary work on most upgrades, should always be research. Finding other owners with similar
car and upgrades, can allow for "real world" review, knowing how well a certain product or a modification
works. Second step is locating the source(s) for the parts. Be sure to check out internet outlets, direct from
the manufacturer purchase options, nationwide chains as well as small local shops. Consider checking out
big car events, although the "show special" prices may not always be the best bargains.
Certain modifications and upgrades may require a work of a specialist, be sure to research the choices
and cost of the labour, it could mean a considerable increase of cost.
Last but not least, make sure that all performed modifications will not affect general aspects of ownership
such as driveability, regular maintenance or desired use of the car.
