The first addition provided by Michael K. Hoffman: HE Wright's, here is a scan of a first division patch. First division on the Benny Sweat had this made up in 1970. The two shades of blue represent service day and night, the tridents are for sea power, (land, sea and air), the chain for the chain of command, The crossed anchors for the rate of BM, the sea horses represent that we were the work horses of the sea. WETSU, We Eat This Shit Up and along the top edge in black thread is the latin phrase,"Illigitamus non Datum Carborundum" or "Don't let the bastards give you a hard time"

Again we have to thank Mike Hoffman. Mike says ALOHA to all. For some the name may ring a bell. For others Maybe not. But Mike was a boatsin mate (1st Div) and made two westpac deployments while on board.

Cruise Book covers

The 1969 Cruse Book Cover. Inside are some pictures to remember. Who can tell me the best sea store form the 1969 criuse, that did not make the cruse book. Your Best Department storie. I'll give you one for now but will change it when the first one is submitted. We had a guy that every time you would have to wake him he would wake up swinging. One evening when it was my turn to wake him up I woke up everybody but him. Each person was issued a trash can lid and we surronded his rack. We reached gave a wake up tug and then held the trash can lids tight all around him. He woke up swing same as normal but this time he Keep swinging and hitting trash can lids. after a while he stoped swinging his hands hurting from the lids. It worked anytime after that when you had to wake him up he would have to think first, is there a trash can lid there.
