Thurber Reuben Thayer
[l903 - 1997] He was born on August 29, 1903, at the homestead on Indian Falls Rd ., in the Newstead Twp., east of the village of Akron, (Erie Co., New York 14001).
About 6 months later, his parents, George Edwin & Nellie Zelona [ nee Perk- ins] Thayer moved to what is called "Thayer Home- stead" at 13083 Knapp Rd. Building the home in 1902 & other barns was a Mr. Knapp for whom the road later named. His place is located further east near the Genesee County
line.
The 200+ Acre farm, now owned by Robert Allen Thayer of Rochester, NY., at one time or another, the residence of the elder Thayer’s 3 children, some grandchildren, and great grandchildren of George A., Virginia Mae {Harter}, and Ruth Lenora,
[Gimbrone/ Marzolf]. " Grace Lenora, (Nee Barringer), as she affectionately called him, and Thurber were married in Chester, VA on aug.29th, l929. T.R. graduated from Akron High School, a couple years before his only brother, Forest Reber Thayer, who moved to Scotland Rd., outside Akron, NY with his 1st wife, Gladys E. [Jerome]. TR & Grace met while attending Chesboro Seminary, now Roberts Wesleyan College, and thence both graduated from Greenville College, IL.
Mrs. Thayer was the only daughter of Pearl Victor Barringer of
Portland, OH and Estella Mae [Huff] born in East Liverpool, OH
'TR' & Grace ministered in many WNY places
until her death in Sept. , l974 at the family home on Knapp Rd. Both were substitute public school
teachers, and parented three children.
Rev. T. R. Thayer was an ordained elder of Free Methodists'
Genesee Conference in Western NY. His 1st "pastorate" was at W. Kendall, N Y (Orleans County) in 1929. As
Historian, he faithfully attended Annual Conferences;
was Statistical Secretary, & involved in Cattaraugus Camp, & Barker, NY
: (Lighthouse Camp) is on Lake Ontario. A Bible/Book Store was established from his "cottage' on the grounds. Rev. Thayer's ministry & heritage is traced for 16 generations from his Anglo-Saxon [in Braintree, England] to Braintree, Massachusetts.
The TFA Quarterly, Spring 1998 issue, Page 6 article* reported that Rev. T.R. Thayer is a direct descendant of George Washington Thayer and Martha Clemons on the Thomas lineage of early 1500’s!

We honor our forefathers
especially those memorialized and are buried in Ledge Lawn Cemetery, on Rte. 5 between Clarence and Akron, NY. Parents, and most grand parents: Geo. Edwin & Nellie Thayer,& Grace's mother, Estella Barringer. But her father, Pearl Victor Barringer's grave is at Portland, OH near the Ohio River "boot" and West Virginia state line.
Thurber & Grace were married in Chester,W.Va Free Methodist parsonage on his birthday, August 29, l929 then moved to W. Kendall,NY (Orleans County) to begin 'pastoring' in the Genesee Conference & where George Allan Thayer was born Aug.10, l930, in the parsonage next door! The family moved to Ellington & East Randolph,(Cattaraugus County)"T.R." continued minstering for 3 years before again moving to Yorkshire. Three years later another move to South Dayton, then to Salamanca, all in Cattaraugus County! More to follow on the Thayer Family as time and space
