"Indian Summer" by Chloe
"Come on, Jen, were gonna be late!" Dawson yelled from his driveway
where Pacey's truck sat with various luggage scattered around it. Pacey
was laying on the ground, his head propped up against a rolled up
sleeping bag, snoring softly. Joey was standing to left of Dawson, arms
crossed across her chest, and tapping her foot with impatience. Finally,
after a few moments of saying goodbye to her Grams, Jen staggered out of
the Colonial-style house, carrying a large suitcase, a backback, a
purse, and a make-up case. She had just curled her hair and was wearing
platform shoes and numerous pieces of jewelry. Jen looked like she was
going on a fancy trip to New York in a limousine, not to be a counselor
at Camp McGillis Lake.
Groaning and putting a hand to her for head, Joey walked over to
where Pacey lay sleeping peacefully, unaware of the fashion show Jen was
putting on. Joey stared down at him for a moment before taking great
pleasure in waking him from his slumber. She smiled deviously and bent
down, plugging Pacey's nose. In a few seconds, he was up and sputtering,
while joey sat back and watched him gleefully.
"Yea, real funny Joey. Seriously, is that the best you can do? I'm
disappointed, Jo, I really am. I expected more of you, than just a mere
plugging of the nose," Pacey said as he got up. He stared at the
grinning Joey for a second as if not believing that was all she would
do before shaking his head. Shaking his head, PAcey glanced as his watch
and yelled," Ok, boys and girls, Counselor Pacey has awoken and we now
may precede, or else we will risk the utter humiliation of being tardy
our first day as counselors."
After everyone's stuff had been thrown in the back of Pacey's truck,
the, gang set out for Camp Mcgillis Lake. Jen, Pacey, Joey and Dawson
had all gotten summer jobs as camp counselors. Pacey and Dawson would be
in charge of a cabin of 11-12 year old boys, and Jen and Joey would be
the counselors for a group of 11-12 year old girls. Jen and Joey had
been getting along better , but Joey still though she was a bit
annoying, like how she was into her looks and make-up.
After a few minutes of silence, Joey announced that she was
bored.
"Well, we could play Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon, Jo. That is a prime
example of one of the best movie oriented games out there. It really
tests your knowledge of the entertainment world," Dawson said.
"No, Pacey always cheats at that game,"
"Hey, i don't cheat, I bend the rules so far that they just can't be
described as rules anymore. Is that so wrong?" PAcey asked innocently.
All he got in response was a glare from Joey.
"A hundred bottles of beer on the wall, a hundred bottles of
beer......", Pacey sung quietly to himself.Joey glanced quickly over at
him in the driver's seat.
"What the hell are you singing, Pacey? And you better pray that it
can't be categorized as a drunken bar hopper's theme song," Joey
quipped.
"Keep it down, ice Queen, " Pacey replied. The bickering went on for
some time, until they had finally reached the lake.
Jen, who had been silent most of the way up, asked Dawson,"There
aren't any mosquitoes here, are there?"
Dawson looked over at her with a smile,"Yea, of course there are,
Jen. It's camp, get used to it."
The gang got their sleeping bags and duffel bags and followed the
signs with arrows labeled "Counselor Check-in". When they reached a huge
building that looked like a mess hall, they all glanced at each other. "
Are we ready to be in charge of a large group of ankle-biter for 6
weeks?" Dawson asked apprehensivley.
"Dude, my man, no worries, ok? Your with dear old Uncle Pacey. Kids
love me. Stick with me and you'll do fine," Pacey said, patting Dawson
on the back. The girls just glanced at each other with raised eyebrows
and suppressed giggles.
Once inside, the group walked up to a table where a
bubbly, cheerful young woman with curly blonde hair was standing talking
to a group of older kids, probably other counselors. "So please, just
step to your left and tell Cynthia your name and she'll give you your
cabin assignments, ok? Doesn't that sound like fun? It sure does! Now,
remember counselors, you need to set an example for the younger kids, so
no boy/girl kissy-face stuff,ok? No drugs, alcohol, or swearing, and
remember to keep your religious views to yourself, and we'll have a
dandy old time!" The woman clasped her hands in front of her and
surveyed the group of teens with a big smile. "The children are getting
her this afternoon, so get to your cabin ASAP to get yourselves settled.
Oh, we are going to have the best summer, I just know it!" With that the
woman hopped down from the chair at which she was standing on, and
hurried to that back of the room, where she opened a bottle of pills and
drank a couple with a glass of water.
"Break out the Prozac," Pacey whispered to Joey, who laughed. Joey
looked at Pacey, and realized he wasn't so bad. After her big thing with
Dawson, Pacey had been there for Joey to talk too, and she was grateful.
A couple of times when they had been alone, talking about life or love,
they had almost kissed, but were always interrupted or stopped just in
time. Joey always just chalked it up to the fact that Pacey was just
lonely, and he would have kissed any girl. But lately, Joey had been
hanging out with Pacey more, and was almost wishing her would kiss her.
*Well, I can forget that happening this summer,* Joey thought, * Thanks
to Miss prozac and her no sucking face rule. but, then again...what she
doesn't know, can't hurt her!* Joey thought with a smile.
