The film's plot consists of a new anti-gang cop (Sean Penn) thinking he can make a difference in in L.A. His seasoned partner (Robert Duvall) just wants to keep the peace and live to see his retirement. But where does Gerardo fit in?
Our hero's poignant portrayal of a gang leader is obviously brilliant. But seeing that he grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, the part probably wasn't too much of a reach. Still, he shows amateurs Duvall and Penn what true talent is like. I mean come on, The Godfather? The Apostle? Gerardo knows where the real work is.
The film was critically acclaimed (by people other than me) and directed by psycho Dennis Hopper. G-Dogg shows us that he's still got it.
