Giuliani: We Don't Want Your Gift! Citing Comments on Attack, Giuliani Rejects Saudi's Gift: '"There is no moral equivalent for this act," he added. "The people who did it lost any right to ask for justification for it when they slaughtered 4,000 or 5,000 innocent people. And to suggest that there's a justification for it only invites this happening in the future. It is highly irresponsible and very, very dangerous."'

Skin Form of Anthrax in NYC. NBC Says New York Employee Tests Positive for Anthrax: '"People should not overreact to this," Giuliani said. "Much of this is being done to allay people's fears."'

Tyrannical Regimes Torture People. Not such a surprise, but still a horrible thing to think about. "I was one of the Taliban's torturers: I crucified people": (warning graphic content) "
Instead of just searching for criminals, the night patrols were instructed to seek out people watching videos, playing cards or, bizarrely, keeping caged birds. Men without long enough beards were to be arrested, as was any woman who dared venture outside her house. Even owning a kite became a criminal offence. The state of terror spread by the Taliban was so pervasive that it began to seem as if the whole country was spying on each other. "As we drove around at night with our guns, local people would come to us and say there's someone watching a video in this house or some men playing cards in that house," he said. "Basically any form of pleasure was outlawed," Mr Hassani said, "and if we found people doing any of these things we would beat them with staves soaked in water - like a knife cutting through meat - until the room ran with their blood or their spines snapped. Then we would leave them with no food or water in rooms filled with insects until they died."' - - - - -

Remember. October 11, 2001: One month ago today many of our loved ones were taken from us in an act of terror on our soil. Remember those that were lost today. Say a prayer for the repose of their souls.

Bert in Bangladesh? According to Reuters and AP, the posters of bin Laden with Bert from Sesame Street on them were actually printed and distributed to protestors! Read all about it: Bert working with
bin Laden? What a weird story. - - - - -

My roommate says we should see this... a theater show entitled "Penis Puppetry." Here's the NYT review: A Couple of Naked Guys From Australia. Don't ask me, Evan suggested the show.
Addendum: To PENIS or NOT to PENIS? It seems the three-inch segment of a penis found in a bottle of "Potency Punch" in Denver turned out to be only a disgusting gelatinous mold formation. Eww, either way. - - - - -

This is war (and this is wartime rhetoric). These are what some say in times of war, I suppose. Very unsettling. We're ready to strike again, says al-Qaeda: "The impassioned five-minute diatribe was broadcast last night on the Qatar-based al-Jazeera television network and coincided with a call to British Muslims to assassinate Tony Blair and his Cabinet to avenge the bombing of Afghanistan."
Addendum: Stupid things that are trying to be funny also appear. What do you think about this altered photo? - - - - -
How to cope with war. Sure, its on your mind and its affecting everything about us. What is the best way to deal with war?: '...a terrorist's objective is to "psychologically cripple us, and the real strength comes to us individually and as a nation in not allowing that to happen," says Jerilyn Ross, Washington, D.C.-area clinical psychologist and president of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
"That doesn't mean you should ignore what you're feeling, or ignore your instincts," Ross tells WebMD. "It means you can decide how these events will affect your life."' - - - - -
I don't like Anthrax. Second Case of Anthrax Leads F.B.I. Into Inquiry: "Law enforcement officials said privately that the presence of anthrax in two co-workers, and on the computer keyboard of the man who died, was highly suspicious even though they had no evidence of criminal or terrorist activity."
A co-worker was copying and distributing Anthrax symptom information sheets at work today and everyone I know has the A-word on their lips. It also came up in two of my classes. Shoudl we be worried? - - - - -

The bombing: Day 2 A Day in quotes: '--White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer: "This is not a war against Osama bin Laden. This is a war against terrorists on multiple fronts. This is about a whole network of terrorists operating around the world with global reach who have the ability to inflict harm on the U.S. and its friends.... If Osama bin Laden was gone today, the war would continue tomorrow."'

Celebrity sighting. On our short walk to 'late night' at Third North, Evan and I noticed a relatively large crowd in front of the Variety Arts Theater, the off-Broadway venue showing "Reefer Madness" and, making our way through the crowd, came face-to-face with John Cusack, Neve Campbell, and Jeremy Piven (who co-stars with Cusack in Serendipity). How awesome is that?!?!? (Star-struck? Me? Nah...) We stopped for a second to take in the ambience of it all. The group then went over to this new bar across Third Ave. that was unusually crowded and unusually guarded by a bouncer. I like celebrities. :)

I hate war! Many of you may agree with this point. So the US and its allies decided to begin the first wave of attacks on Afghanistan today. The Emmy's were cancelled and the news programs have again taken over many of my television channels. The military patrolled over football stadiums and a major racecar track. 50 cruise missles will be launched. Food drops bearing "A Gift from the People of The United States of America." Song, prayer, and candle peace protests in Union Square Park. A reported "100% chance of attack" on America, either at home or abroad. Trying to take George 'Dubya' Bush's speeches seriously (no luck). Admiring British Prime Minister's eloquently spoken speech, which actually answered the questions we were wondering. The pledge of support from Britain. Osama Bin Laden decides his rallying point of the moment is that no Israelis should be in "Palestinian territory" (he's not an idiot, just a maniac, it seems). Confusion, chaos, fear, and lack of information. Progress? I hate war!

Never too early to plan your future. I was thinking that next semester I may want to take an American Sign Language course thorugh the School of Education here at NYU. I'll have to find out how exactly I go about registering for courses offered by different colleges within the University... I'm also searching for some sort of website design course that would be interesting...
