Pump manufacturing is synonymous with Seneca Falls and its industrial heritage. The Pump Room exhibits a short history of the pump industry. It was in 1839 that Paine and Caldwell began manufacturing the first wooden pumps. Many companies followed over the years; Downs Co., Cowing Co., Silsby Co., Rumsey Mfg. Co., and Goulds Pumps. Only Goulds Pumps (acquired by ITT Industries in 1997) remains in operation today.

Other Seneca Falls industries included: gloves, boats, clocks, globes, woolen mills and stoves. Even automobiles were once manufactured here!
