    •  
    • The Poppa Lou Golf Classic was begun in
      1995 following the passing of Louis Parsons,
      the father of Buffy, Mickey, Arlene, Irene and
      Dennis Parsons, by event founders Bart
      Leverich and Jerry Cross and organizers
      John & Buffy (Parsons) Whiting.
      
      The event was to be a tribute to "Poppa Lou's"
      love of family and friendship to all who he
      came in contact with, with the intention to be as
      much a celebration of family and friends, as a
      golfing contest.
      
      The format of the outing, a scramble allowing
      teams to play the best golf shot of the foursome
      encouraged the participation of family and
      friends who had limited golf skill and to include
      wives, girlfriends and children in the event.
      
      Over the years the Poppa Lou has become one
      of the most popular family events of the summer.
      Much of the success of the event can be traced
      to the emphasis on having fun and enjoying a
      party with friends and family featuring the family
      band, lead by family member Father Gunn, who
      passed away in 2011.
      
      The 2012 Poppa Lou is scheduled to be a
      celebration of all those who have had an influence
      on teaching the value of friendship and family, and
      special tribute to Father Fran who meant so much
      to so many and loved the Poppa Lou and the game
      of golf.
