 Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Chapter was chartered on April 28, 1939 in Miner Hall at Howard University by nine young women under the direction of Soror Ruby G. Peake. The

Alpha Phi Chapter encourages and promotes high scholastic attainment, develops leadership and individual talents, emphasizes the value of poise and dignity, as well as providing an atmosphere in which friendships and social contacts may be developed.
