***Federal - MBTA***

Tree Sparrows are one of many people's favorites.  Mostly streaked with several shades of brown, Tree Sparrows have grey faces and breast with a red cap.  Most have a more or less distinct dark spot in the middle of the breast.  They are small, tame birds, visitors from the north, who come down every winter to feed at feeding stations and hang out with chickadees.  American Tree Sparrows are truly one of the best signs of winter, they are first seen around the time of the first snowfall, but they linger well into spring.
