Species Description- Canada Anemone
Anemone canadensis

Canada Anemone
Canada Anemone
Anemone canadensis
Monroe County, NY

Another one of NY's showy wildflowers, Canada Anemone is one of several Anemones found in the state.  All are in the buttercup family and the white "petals" of the plant are actually it's sepals.  There are numerous stamens in the center of the flower.  The deeply divided leaves are another characteristic used to identify this plant.  Somewhat common in damp meadows and shores, the plant pictured above was one of a large patch of them found on the edge of Lake Ontario.
