False Solomon's Seal
Smilacina racemosum
Seneca County, NY
False Solomon's Seal is a common member of the Lily
Family. It may be recognized by its single stalk of alternating leaves
ending in a raceme of six petaled white flowers. The leaves have
parallel veins. Vegetation is similar to the Solomon's Seal, hence
the name, but Solomon's Seals have bell shaped flowers hanging below the
stalk, unlike the pyrimadal raceme of the False Solomon's Seal. Both
are found in rich, moist woods. Blooms May-July.
