Wild Geranium
Geranium maculatum
Tioga County, NY

Wild Geranium is one the more common of our native woodland flowers.  It is usually seen along woods edges and blooming on the forest floor.  Very pretty and distinctive, Wild Geranium is a pink flower blooming above the distinctive palmately lobed leaves.  This is a somewhat early flower to bloom, often seen in May and June.  By summer most flowers will have died off and the "cranesbill" type fruit appears.  The fruit is long and skinny, supposedly giving the impression of a crane's bill.  Most native members of this family in fact go by that common name.
