A common, but introduced, member of the pea family,
Cow Vetch is a showy plant that is easy to identify. Blooming in
late spring to early summer Cow Vetch can be found growing on roadsides,
grassland and waste areas. It is a vine that winds around larger
plants and forms a thick ground cover, the leaves are long and compound
and end in a tendril. The most distinctive feature of this plant
is its large one-sided raceme of blue-purple flowers.
