Species Description- Yarrow
Achillea millefolium

Achillea millefolium
Livingston County, NY

***NY- Introduced***

This introduced plant of roadsides and disturbed areas is superficially similar to Wild Carrot.  Both are tall plants with deeply divided leaves that have white flowers in dense head.  Yarrow differs, however, in that there are fewer flowers in a less circular pattern (they are arranged in a corymb as opposed to Carrot's umbel) and Yarrow's leaves are small and lance-shaped, appearing more filled out than Carrot.  This common plant grows best in fields and along roadsides and can be seen growing alongside of its more common look-alike.  Yarrow can be found late-spring to fall.
