Timber Rattlesnake
Crotalus h. horridus
Bradford County, PA
Of course, snake hunters go to a densite looking for Rattlesnakes. Timber Rattlesnakes are our largest snake species, exceeding 4 feet long and some monsters approach five. Coupled with their length, Rattlesnakes are a heavy bodied species. There are two color phases. The color phase shown here is what is known as the "Yellow Phase" and there is a very dark variety, "Black Phase." Juveniles hatch somewhere in between.
