Take a first time director, a script that was worked on by over a dozen writers and have them rework a three decade old television show. Can ya smell what the studio's cookin?....
That's right, a blockbuster!
Charlie's Angles is one of the better movies that have been based on an old television show. And the fact that it grossed over 120 million domestic proves that movie audiences agreed.
They’re beautiful, they’re brilliant and they work for Charlie. Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore) and Alex (Lucy Lui), alongside faithful lieutenant Bosley (Bill Murray), must foil an elaborate murder-revenge plot that could spell the end of Charlie and his Angels.
If you were a fan of the show, or of these actors or of high energy entertainment, then this is the movie for you. The action is over the top, the costumes are over the top, the whole movie is eye candy and a treat for the senses, though you must remember if you are picking up this movie, it is not to be taken seriously. This movie exists for one purpose, to entertain, and it does that, in spades. "Think James Bond meets 'Austin Powers' with a little 'Matrix' thrown in!" Joel Siegel, Good Morning America The film is an anamorphic transfer, and the many of the shots are not overly saturated, so there is a nice smooth look throughout without that harsh red shadow that sometimes creeps into scenes. There are some outtakes including a hilarious one with Murray and Tim Curry playing Marco Polo. Also the commentary my McG (the director) is insightful and entertaining. The featurettes are all right, nothing spectacular there. And finally the disc includes the hit video by Destiny's Child, all in all a very satisfying DVD.
