Bring It On

The Toro cheerleading squad has got spirit, spunk and a killer routine that’s sure to land them the national championship for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain Torrance (Kirsten Dunst), discovers that their perfectly choreographed routines were in fact stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop squad from East Compton, by the Toro’s former captain. While the Toros scramble to come up with a new routines, the Clovers, led by squad captain Isis (Gabrielle Union) have their own problems – coming up with enough money to cover their travel expenses to the championships. Both teams in feverish competition but only one can bring home the gold!

Now I wanted to hate this movie. I know that isn't right to say, but I mean, come on, a movie about cheerleaders? Well, from the opening scene, a cheer which introduces us to the Toro's I was hooked. I liked these cheerleaders and cared about what happened to them. Then later on in the movie when we are introduced to the Clovers, I liked them too. Both teams were very good, the actors did a great job all around. Including the pill popping choreographer who's definition of cheerleaders is that. "they are dancers who've gone retarded!"

There are some really great cheer routines done by an attractive cast, including the "rebel" character played by Eliza Dushku, whom I had thought was an unknown but has been around since True Lies. She as well as Gabrielle Union are two young stars to watch for in the near future.

Now on with the disc. It is packed with extras, including a commentary. The transfer is anamorphic, formatted for widescreen tv's.

C's Final Word - PROPER! (the only thing holding me back from giving it a much coveted Da Bomb rating is that it is in fact a movie about cheerleaders)
