Mission Impossible 2

Expect the impossible again. MI-2, a romantic action thriller that plunges special agent Ethan Hunt into an international crisis of terrifying magnitude. With computer genius Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) at his side and a beautiful thief (Thandie Newton) on his mind, Hunt races across Australia and Spain on what seems like an impossible mission - to stop a villain before he can fulfill his own destructive mission.

It had been Tom Cruise's idea to have a different director for each of the Mission Impossible movies that he would make. While I enjoyed the first one I felt it lacked something. Now it was clear, it had lacked John Woo!

John Woo is a phenomenal action director. If all you know of his work is Face Off and MI 2 then you are missing a world of great action films. Much of what we see in many action films, the two gun assaults, hero and villain drawing weapons on each other simultaneously or countless other trademarks have all been lifted from the films of John Woo. (Some being Hard Boiled and The Killer to name two of his best)

Well once again Woo doesn't disappoint. The film is action packed with new stunts and awesome fight sequences, this film can make Tom Cruise an actual action star. In this movie Cruise felt like an MI agent. He had that dangerous quality that he was lacking in the first film, and yet, he still had that charm he is known for. Thandie Newton lights up the screen as the sultry siren she is, and there is great screen chemistry between the two.

The rock climbing sequence at the beginning of the film is spectacular, and the motorcycle chase is about the best I have seen in a while.

This disc is packed! First of there is a commentary by Woo which is very informative. The parody from MTV Movie Awards is hilarious. There are also a bunch of stunt breakdowns as well as other goodies.
