Disadvantages

Cochlear Implants also have some disadvantages. For example:

• Usually hearing parents with a Deaf child decide to get their child implanted with a Cochlear Implant without the child ever getting to know his true identity as a Deaf person
• The Deaf community fears that their culture is near extinction and as a result, those who get the implant aren't really accepted in the Deaf community
• The implant doesn't guarantee that a Deaf person will actually have perfect hearing or speech
• Sometimes too much is expected from the implant so many aren't happy with the results
