I
remember trying to find items for Kevin's Easter Basket that were not chocolate
or full of sugar, since he was also hyperactive. The choices were
few, mostly pencils, erasers, sugar free gum and any little toy we could
tuck in to his basket. He didn't seem to mind not having candy, since
he didn't have a big sweet tooth.
On the last
few Mother's Days while Kevin was alive, he purchased a teddy bear for
me, since I collect them. The last one was a Mommy bear and her little
cub. I still put it out for Mother's Day every year. I don't
like this day and can hardly stand to go to church and hear the "Mother's
Day Message". The first two years, we went away for the weekend so
I didn't have to break down in church. But we still were greeted
in every restaurant with "Happy Mother's Day, here is a flower"---a nice
gesture, but very painful for me. I still have a Mother (who is 88)
so I try to focus my day on her, instead of me. The last couple have
been better.
