Adventure 2
The Balrog at Khazad-dûm...
As we ran from the Orcs, they chattered madly in their own hideous langauge. Gandlaf understood only one word: Ghâsh, that is, "Fire". He did not know what it had to do with anything, but he sensed the urgency even in the Orcs speach. Even they were afraid. We did not have to wait long to find out what the Orcs were so afraid of.
As we ran across the bridge of Khazad-dum, we turned to look back. Around the corner in the far off hall we heard something large coming. Legolas was the first to recognise what it was. A Balrog, a spirit of fire - They have hearts of fire, and carry whips of flame.
Out of a band of orcs leaped the great shadowy Balrog, twisted in flame and somehow dark as night. Gandalf commanded the rest of us to flee while he held the bridge. Aragorn and Boromir refused to leave Gandalf's side, so we all stayed. The Balrog swung a flaming sword and leaped forward, but Gandlaf stood firm, and with a mighty spell, broke the bridge in two. The Balrog tumbled down, but wrapped his fire whip around Gandlaf's ankles and pulled him down into the deep. And he was gone.
