~DIGNITY~

I met her as a child
For she lived with me
My grandfather always said
She has dignity

I often heard the stories
From my dad and grandpa too
Of how she lead a nation
In World War II

I stood in 1961
With tears in my eyes
When she covered a casket
The day grandpa died

I've watched her sail proudly
From ships across the sea
Showing her gracefulness
And her dignity

I saw her flowing
On a make shift cross last year
The day this nation faced and saw
Our lives facing fear

And though she's been burned
And scorned by a few
I know what she means
To me and you

For years she's stood in classrooms
When our hands crossed our heart
And now they want to remove
The most important part

One nation UNDER GOD
Is the way it's meant to be
For Old Glory stands for us all
With every ounce of dignity

I can't help but think
Of those who no longer care
Who don't understand her meaning
In this nation everywhere

I don't understand
Omitting the words that are true
About someone above
Who loves me and you

Many things I don't understand
In this world today
But in my life Old Glory
Began each day

I will fly her for freedom
I will always salute her with pride
For I will never forsake her
Until the day I die

For I am an American
I know from where I come
And UNDER GOD is part of me
It's sad it's not for some
