~HEART TUGS~

Just when you think you're "seasoned"
And the pain has passed you by
Something will happen
That will sometimes make you cry

It can be anything
Or it can be anywhere
A photo or an old toy
Our memories are everywhere

Today I had a heart tug
As I walked and saw the bike
The old red metal was glistening
In the afternoon sunlight

I stood and stared at it
Memories ran though my head
Of another bike and rider
A child who now is dead

It's funny how quick our minds react
And how fast our memories race
I saw my son on his bike
When he passed through Heaven's gate

I saw the tree falling
I wanted to scream run, my child run
Instead I stared at the bike
Heart tugs choking my lungs

In seconds so much happened
As I saw a future I've never seen
Seeing my child alive again
Running throught a beautiful grass of green

I could hear his giggles
I could feel his kisses on my face
I closed my eyes and remembered
Oh, those beautiful days

Reality brought me back
As I stood and stared again at the bike
Still saying after all these years
To lose my child wasn't right

Heart tugs come and go
They've become a part of me
Memories take me back
To happier times it seems

I know I'll always have heart tugs
I know I'll always have pain
I know I'd give anything
To have my life normal again

Life isn't always fair
Heart tugs will always be
My past, present and future
Until God calls on me

Heart tugs for what could have been
Heart tugs for what is now
Heart tugs for a child who is gone
And a mother with a head bowed down

Heart tugs for a love
That time never takes away
Heart tugs for my child
Whom I wish had never gone away
