~IF YOU ONLY KNEW~

This is for all friends
And family members too
Who knows someone who's lost a child
And doesn't know what to do

There really isn't anything
That you can say or do
Our lives are completely changed
Our hearts are broken too

You can't tell us you understand
Because we now know that's not so
Our pain is beyond description of words
The road we walk is slow

Don't tell us we should do this or that
And tell us you know it's for our good
Our pain is beyond anything you realize
We would just like to be understood

Don't look at us with downcast eyes
We see everything that you do
We're hurting so deeply
And pray you never experience this too

We need to talk about our child
Whether that makes you uncomfortable or not
We gave birth, and loved then lost
Our memories are all we've got

Don't judge us for the tears on our face
Or for things you feel are crazy that we do
We are going through emotions we never knew
And we don't know ourselves what to do

If we decline a movie, a trip or a ride
To places we once used to go
Don't think it's because we don't care about you
It's just so hard when we're feeling low

We know that we are now different
That our lives will no longer be
The way we were before our child died
If only our hearts you could see

We understand it's hard for you to know
What we are going through
We look the same on the outside
But our insides are torn in two

Allow us our own time to grieve
Don't tell us, "Its' been long enough"
Until you walk the road we're on
Please, don't try and judge us
