Before the James E. Allen Learning Center opened in 1973, BOCES III set up its main special education learning centers at the Woodbury Avenue Grade School in Huntington and the Kent Avenue School in Lindenhurst. BOCES III’s Principal and Assistant Director of Special Education in the early 1970s was Mr. Elmer J. Cuthbertson, who placed a different Assistant Principal in charge of each school: Mr. Robert Smith at Kent and Mr. Michael Solimando at Woodbury.
